. . . happen to own the world's two largest reserves of shale gas?
Nice timing, huh?
The trick, of course, is the environmental impact. American companies don't want to reveal their techniques, but the public needs to know so we can judge the impact and enforce the necessary precautions.
How that works and what volumes that ultimately allows us to extract is a big variable going forward.
With China, one assumes the niceties are not observed - until the riots start.

Some time in the future, and I hope it is a long time away, humans desperate for fresh, clean water will look back in anger and bewilderment at how we squandered that resource.
For a hundred years now we have used it to flush way our waste, wash our cars and water golf courses. Now we let energy companies "frack" the earth to obtain a commodity which they then sell us. Well, we know how that game is played. Ignore the scientists that try to warn us and turn up the thermostat. We are too busy to worry about that right now.
Should we take any note that "Barnett" is listed on the graphic as "a major gas reserve"?? :-)
Wish.
