Geithner surviving now, thriving eventually?

UNITED STATES: "Tim Geithner: Baptism of fire; The treasury secretary is torn between politics and policy," The Economist, 25 April 2009.

My favorite bit here:

In a town full of people steeped in politics but short on substance, Mr Geithner is the opposite.

Truer words never spoken.

The question is, and I think we're starting to spot the answer, can he grow in his political capacity for empathy, matching his boss?
