Whereas everyone might agree that the United States has never been safer, can the same be said of globalization; this, given China's rise?
Herein, the so-called "pivot to the East/next war itis" to be seen as an acknowledgement that the United States now believes that the greatest threat to globalization lies -- not in failing to adequately address problems which are common to weak, failed or failing states -- but, rather, in failing to address problems which are common to great and rising powers.
So why must we must prepare and act in such a manner as to deter China?
Not because we fear that China will attack the United States. But, rather, because we fear that China will act in such a manner as to derail globalization.
