Well, speaking for myself (and a lot of people I know), there's a substantial drop-off of nerd-happiness around 50. That's the point when it becomes nearly impossible to change jobs like you used to. And it's the point when you realize the rest of your career is likely going to be reminding people how to solve problems and do things that you've done before. sigh...
My first wife said during our divorce proceedings that she never loved me so much as when we first married and it was all downhill after that. The curve doesn't lie!
