Prague at Xmas

Flew overnight Wednesday into Madrid, then hopped to Prague.  Arrived late afternoon, got showered and suited up, and then delivered brief to select group of grad students at top local international relations institute (the host: Associace pro mezinarodni otasky, or Association for International Affairs).  Went about 90 and did another 30 Q&A.  Then dinner with Director Tomas Karasek.

Next day I oversleep and am awakened by host  15 minutes before scheduled talk at beautiful nearby old 19th-century building (same place I spoke the night before).  I scramble and we start 10 mins late.  Similar-length effort for select audience of diplomats and others.

Then have lunch with intern, who is my guide for afternoon-long walking tour of Prague.

Awesome! Looks like you're having similar weather to what I experienced in Feb '06. Hope you have time to take in the sights - Prague is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. The beer is pretty good, too...:)

Thanks for sharing, and providing a reminder of our visit in 2008. Truly a must see city on anyone's bucket list. Hope you had a chance to cross the Charles Bridge on the Vltava River and view the 30 statues that line the bridge. My Chinese father-in-law reacted with disdain when he viewed the statue of St. Frrancis Xaverius, and saw the St. supported by four supposed heathens; a Moor, a Tatar, an Indian, and a Chinese; as he baptized a kneeling Indian and a Japanese prince. He later explained, that China's view of the world today is colored by humiliations the statue protrayed.

Thanks for the pics. My dizzy nephew has been there for a whole semester and all we get are pictures of him drinking with his friends. I would like to see Prague someday. I'm done with France...nice country...except for the French.

Heard the news today about Vaclav Havel's passing. He's always been an inspiration on how a person can be a politician and retain an ethical base.

Cool pictures Tom. I've been to most European cities but not Prague. Might do this for my 25th anniversary!

Nice pics! Will be in Praha with my family later in the week for Christmas, so hope to enjoy in person...

What's the vibe with the recent death of Vaclav Havel?

Great pictures! This is a great city to visit and there are more things than you can possibly cover in one trip.
I suggest sitting in the Old Town Square one evening with a glass of wine and watching the sun go down and the people going every direction. This time of day give a marvelous light to this beautiful square. For evenings, there are all kinds of musical programs and I am sure you will be offered tickets on the street or you can research before hand.
The night is the best time to stroll in Prague. The city lights up magically. The view to the castle in the evening as it lights up is fantastic. The walk between Old Town Square and the Charles Bridge is wonderful. There will be alot of people and it's all very safe. It's a wonderful experience.
