The quintessential sign of a System Perturbation: rise in videoconferencing

FT story.

Never ceases to amaze me:  whenever there's a System Perturbation, you see the article on how videoconferencing is suddenly enjoying a boomlet.

Got 9/11?  More vid conferencing.

Got SARS?  More vid conferencing.

Got a Great Recession?  More vid conferencing.

Anything really bad hit?  Buy stock in vid conferencing companies!

Which teleconferencing stock? Pollycom (PLCM) YTD +22.5%, or ACT (ACT Teleconferencing) down 33.3%?
Just saying...

Don't forget about companies that provide bandwidth hardware, wired and celluar. All that video will require more bandwidth. Then again, stocks may be a bit frothy given the current state of the economy. Who knows.

Video Conferencing. A huge bust in the 80's. Technical types and bean counters thought it was better than sliced bread. No travel costs, no hotel rooms, no meals, really cool.

Ever work in New Buffalo in the winter? Or Minneapolis? Or Chicago? Want to sit in a windowless room in January and talk to a TV screen? Or would you rather fly to Phoenix where it's 80 degrees and play some golf. Ever try to "get lucky" through a TV screen? Get away from the wife via satellite? I don't think so.

Deals are made in person. Eyeball to eyeball. TV is for watching Sesame Street.
