ARTICLE: Generation Gap Narrows, and Beatles Are a Bridge, By SAM ROBERTS, New York Times, August 12, 2009
Stunning, when you think about it:
"There's now broad agreement across the generations about one realm of American culture that had been an intense battlefield in the 1960s: the music," the survey concludes. Every age group from 16 through 64 listens to rock 'n' roll more than any other format (people 65 and over prefer country music). The Beatles rank in the top four among every group.
And this with the Beatles Rock Band edition and new remastering of all their songs just coming out.

So maybe I'm struck more by the fact that four guys who were not in the political or military arena had such an influence; meaning their influence lay in the arts - so will we look back on the Beatles as a Michelangelo of their day? A group which revolutionized the way music is played and listened to (the modern day dominant art)?
They were "landmark" just as was Haley, Fats, Ray Charles, Little Richard and Elvis . . and a number of other music pioneers in the mid fifties and early sixties . . no better, no worse . . My pick for "Music Genius" of the late 20th Century . . Probably Stevie Wonder . .
But that's just me . .
