ARTICLE: US shrugs off Pakistan-Taliban links, By Gareth Porter, Asia Times, Aug 6, 2009
A good example of why Pakistan's utility is limited in this long war. Islamabad is never going to give up its desire to see its preferred agents run Kabul and thus assure its "strategic depth" against India.

That’s not to say the friendship is dead by any means, long term strategic relationships have an ebb and flow, but India/Pakistan is an area fright with the difficulties of perception and personal feeling. Side with them, you loose us, may well be the words we hear a lot.
