Don't follow Palin on climate change

OP-ED: Copenhagen's political science, By Sarah Palin, Washington Post, December 9, 2009

More proof that Palin is a bit of a pinhead: Climate-gate only proves that world-class scientists are big-ego, high-maintenance types that, left to their own devices, are about as petty as a bunch of junior high school girls.

Big surprise to some, less so to others, but "proves" nothing.

And yet, this is the crux of Palin's weak argument here. She is brilliant at jumping on current events, but that ain't leadership. It means she needs to get her own Oprah-like show.

"Climategate" certainly does not refute the theory of manmade global warming. It does, however, raise questions about the severity of the crisis and the time frame we are dealing with.

When looking at radically restructuring our economy, and at a time of weakness, it seems prudent to step on the accelerator lightly, not push the pedal to the floor when dealing with this. "Climategate" ought to not to be an excuse for complete inaction, but it should cause the actions taken to be more pragmatic.

Agree completely.

Good news is, with power shifting to emerging pillars like India and China, little-to-no chance for too-fast responses to carry the day.

Reality is as reality does.

Not to mention the Saudis....

"Climategate" doesn't refute anything- except maybe a bit of tree ring data. The "trick" isn't anything but noting the fact that recently, tree rings have stopped being correlated with temperatures (http://www.csmonitor.com/Environment/Bright-Green/2009/1215/Climategate-global-warming-and-the-tree-rings-divergence-problem)

Mountains out of molehills... or just out right disinformation and intellectual dishonesty.

It's not that Palin is a pinhead - it's that she's a dishonest, unprincipled cynic. As Gene Robinson notes, what Palin says now isn't what she lived as governor of Alaska.

Climategate may not refute anything more than global warming has yet to be proven.I concur that actions should be taken more pragmatically, far more pragmatically until such time as global warming can be a rational response to a clearly identified problem instead of reactionary guilt to a perceived problem.

I was very surprised to find the best & most sensible discusssion on the climate situation in chapter 5 "What do Al Gore & Mount Pinatubo have in common?" of Levitt & Dubner's book: SUPER FREAKONOMICS.Take a look at it!
