Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes and she's gone

ARTICLE: Lucy Vodden, Who Inspired a Beatles Song, Dies at 46, By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, September 29, 2009

Truly depressing.

Now even children who inspired Beatles' songs are dying!

I do dread the day the last Beatle dies. I pray for Paul and Ringo. I've been listening to Paul's latest albums and they're truly haunting in their nostalgia. Tough to lose your mates and wife. I admire him deeply for persevering.

The Beatles story has much tragedy and early death. You are right on in your admiration of Paul. Read a great piece on him in the New Yorker awhile back about his lifestyle. Kept same house in London over the years. Has little personal security (amazing when thinking of John and George), walks about in town. Interacts with fans in the street. The key he said was to keep moving. Don't let a crowd form.

Gotta be a little cynical here, Tom . . You guys cuss the "Boomers, but love and adhere to the culture they gave you . . Fortunately, I was born pre WWII so I don't get blamed for all of the crap that came from those generations . .

And the Beatles were OK, but then so was Ray Charles, Jimmy Reed, Buddy Holly, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry and all those who wrote and made the music the Beatles played . . They came from my generation . .

I always love "A Day In The Life" because it is 2 songs in one contrasting McCartney with his feet on the ground ("Woke up, got out of bed") with Lennon reaching for transcendence ("I'd love to turn you on"). Lennon used to hang out at my favorite coffee place on the Upper West Side, what a horror. And Lennon and McCartney were always very good about acknowledging their predecessors.

They are all more than ok, Large. They and many others you mention and many that come after the Beatles all the way up to today are great. It's all a continuum. No generation of musicians needs to be elevated over another. Cynicism, not required.
