Iran is a great power

ARTICLE: At Confirmation Hearing, Clinton Talks of Engagement With Iran, By Glenn Kessler, Washington Post, January 14, 2009; Page A01
Key thing to remember here is that it will take time and we are unlikely to get Iran to stop its reach for the bomb unless we give up plenty regarding its role in the region and even that may not be enough. The harsh truth is that Iran has achieved great power status--as in, nukes plus economic ties with numerous great powers too great to break. We may not like this backdoor acquisition of status (nukes on sly, ties with rising East), but we're not the only guys who have a say anymore.
