Keep it coming, baby!

ARTICLE: "Remittances Hold Steady: Strong Dollar Spurs Immigrants to Send Money Despite Recession," by Miriam Jordan, Wall Street Journal, 11 December 2008.
Remittances to Latin America will grow 1.5% in 2008. That $68 billion is obviously way beyond any official development aid money we send their way.
Western Union, no dummy, as it controls the biggest chunk of the global remittances biz, ran a "cash is the perfect gift" PR campaign for Xmas.
Can Hispanics keep this up? Probably not, and we may be seeing extra amounts going home just before immigrants (legal or not) bail southward.
Something to watch.
