As you might imagine, Christianity is more attractive to people at the bottom of the current system than people at the top. That is why attacks on Christian missionaries in India is part of the caboose braking by people who don't want to see erosion of the current caste system.

India's villages are going to be the last places where Dalits will find opportunity and equal treatment. My prescription for economic advancement would be to move to Goa, change your name to Lopez (or D'Sousa) and then look for work in Mumbai.
