'The Mullah regime is swirling slowly down the drain'

OP-ED: AHMADINEJAD'S NEW ENEMY: WOMEN, By Amir Taheri, New York Post, September 6, 2008

Agree with Lexington Green here: this is a sign of a regime in its death throes. You add that to the world's worst brain drain, the birth dearth, Iranian women as the hot new European prostitute, etc., and you're seeing all the signs of a defeated regime (i.e., they're giving up their women and children like a society that has lost a great conflict). Any government efforts to directly target these losses, like getting tougher with women, fits this overall pattern.

Ahmadinejad and his fellows see their traditional Islamic rule set as a mandate from the supernatural, their living, and as the fulfillment of their ambition and egos. They will rigorously defend it. As emissaries of the supernatural they will not tolerate criticism. And the fact that a good portion of the rest of humanity are critical (heck, a lot of us are laughing at them) and actively working to destroy similar rule sets on either side is driving them into the same bunker mentalities that kept the north Koreans and Cubans in power so long.

Perhaps the proper course is to welcome Iranian defectors with open arms. Work diligently to increase the average Iranians exposure to the globalized society. flood their markets with cheap satellite dishes, park an OC12 in every town, and create agreements turning the Silk Road into an 8 lane super highway from Jerusalem and Prague to Beijing. The let the natural flow of human society dilute the stagnant parts preparing for natural generational regime change.

Isn’t central Asia next on the list to be the capitalistic wild west?
