Obama is The One

ARTICLE: Obama to Reject Public Funds for Election, By Shailagh Murray and Perry Bacon Jr., Washington Post, June 20, 2008; Page A01

Harnessing the social networking phenomenon and the Net in general like never before. Accept no public money and not be sitting on some personal fortune?

That is revolutionary because it changes the fundamental rule set.

And this would be good except he's still focused just on the traditional "suck-up" politics of the Democrats: "You are all victums and I'm the one to make things better." He needs some of the facilitation perception of Ross Perot. Unfortunately there is no fundamental rule change. The focus is on the FORM, but it's still following the old FUNCTION.

Sure, Web 2.0 methods are practically free...but is it possible that his two books being on the bestseller lists for the past two years has helped at all?

In our local paper today (6/24) it says Obama has changed his mind and will accept public financing from the government fund. Did you hear that as well?

May not as "revolutionary" as you may think, though he has been very adept at increasing the amount of small donations but they are not the overwhelming number that some have made them out to be: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/10/AR2008041004045.html?nav=rss_politics

Obama's presence on the web includes two photos of Che in campaign offices, a remarkably arrogant Great Seal of Obama, and a generally tin ear to web issues. I think you missed the mark on this one.

Everything always happens: Obama is a black swan anomaly yet inevitable in hindsight, and the Furman signal guaranteed "traditional'suck-up' politics" ends. Campaign finance reform tends to violate free speech and benefit no one but incumbents.

I agree that the Republicans need to learn how to work the Internet. I believe it is an age thing. Young Web 2.0 types, doing what they do naturally to raise money though the internet.

Too young to remember the Carter years. They will have to learn the hard way.
