Get used to this headline with China

ARTICLE: "China to Make Jumbo Jetliners, Trim Roles of Boeing, Airbus," by AP, Wall Street Journal, 10-11 May 2008, p. B4.

This is why I say you'll end up seeing new hyphenated behemoths in coming years with an Asian name either fore or aft.

But . . according to the trends, the "Giant behemoths" of the air are going the way of the "Spruce Goose" . .

And being replaced by the smaller, more efficient twins . . and to come . . things like the "Dreamliner", quick and efficient, not airworthy stadiums . . .

Lotsa People require lotsa Airplane, which requires lotsa engine, which requires lotsa FUEL . . which is OK if the Guv'mint's paying the bills and profits don't come into play . .

But to sell airliners to profit motivated public companies, you'd better be competitive . . Notice, there's no line forming to buy any Anatovs. And Airbus' big one hasn't been the big hit it was going to be, both because of delays in delivery and now . . efficiency . .

Large, I don't know that the big one's are totally lost; they may still be effective for the most popular routes and times. That said, you're right that the companies needing to watch their backs may be Bombardier and Embraer.
