PLA in Afghanistan would be great

This, obviously, would be a great step in rebranding the PLA for the future.

It would also isolate Russia nicely in its intransigence.

Bring 'em into ISAF, I say. Not only is the ISAF mission a way for NATO to revitalize itself (or die trying), it's also a way to bring other, non-NATO countries into a multinational security framework that doesn't directly involve the UN. Of course this would involve grown-ups in Brussels and Beijing to agree to this and then hash out the details.
