Tough love for the Pentagon

You want some tough love on the Pentagon budget to pay for the interventions (overwhelmingly SysAdmin in nature) we're still waging and are likely to wage in the future, well . . . this is what the hit list looks like.

Simply brutal, but well chosen.

Of all the programs on the list, the only one that attempts to address a capability we could really use is the V-22 Osprey. But the Osprey has yet to work out - so buy more helicopters and continue R&D without deploying any new systems. If we can do that - i.e. keep doing R&D without building and deploying the actual equipment.

A good piece for the NYT - any idea which member of the editorial board wrote it?

Good news for Tom - forecast temperature at kickoff at Soldier Field is now 11F (-12C). And temperatures will be increasing - should be 13F (-11C) at the end of the game - when it is supposed to begin snowing.
