Already with the Hispanics!

ARTICLE: "Hispanic Voters Gain New Clout With Democrats: Early Primaries Fueling Outreach Campaigns," by Raymond Hernandez, New York Times, 10 June 2007, p. A1.

Whew! That didn't take long, did it?

Bush lures Hispanics in surprising numbers and wins two squeakers.

Now, possibly the biggest shift in 08 is that Hispanics are going blue over immigration--go figure.

At almost one out of five voters, Hispanics are already a huge potential swing vote: alienate them and pass the election to the other party.

Obviously, the GOP isn't going to give up this voting bloc without a fight. Since many Hispanic voters are also Catholics and evangelicals, I think it's safe to assume that the GOP will try even harder to draw attention to the issues of abortion, gay marriage, and prayer in schools.

80% of the American public did not support this particular bill. It was a 1000 page bill being crammed down the public's throat at breakneck speed because they knew it did not address how to better deal with immigration and was unfair to those who are coming here legally. The only folks who supported this bill were Democrats who saw an opportunity to influence a key demographic and business hoping to keep labor costs low. When was the last time business and the far left democrats were allies? Not to worry red staters, I see quite an irony unfolding. It is often said that immigrants are doing the jobs that nobody here wants to do. I believe they are doing jobs that nobody here can afford to do. Eventually, the immigrants will find out that they can't afford to live on their present wages either and will press for increases. The business community will react by wanting a new wave of immigrants who will work for the present wages. The democrats, coming to the aid of their newest members, will react by accusing the business community of exploitation and convieniently forget the precedent they set by pushing for this latest bill.
