If it comes to pass it will be wonderful for our future energy needs. We have a 500 year supply of coal.

That's why China wants to play too. The DOE has had early demo projects for some time.

A related technology is high temperature superconductivity which will permit reliable electricity transmission from the coal burning sites to users far away with much less efficiency loss . That technology is also much farther advanced than most folks realize.
