That was depressing... He mentions Vietnam and Iraq like they're the only examples of US involvement and attempts at nation-building, and that they'll both turn us off from it for the future.
What happened to Grenada, Lebabnon, Panama, Somalia, Haiti x 2, the Balkans, Liberia....?
A dinosaur lawyer does not seem too threatening.
WOW. This piece is so filled with misunderstanding that it's absolutely staggering. It doesn't even have anything near the analytical value of the (flawed, but at least complex) Global Guerillas post several weeks ago WRT Lebanon. My favorite is the old "religious fanatics aren't rational actors!" saw. That one was a favorite in the immediate post-9/11 period: "these guys aren't traditional terrorists, because they don't have political aims!" As if the rejection of the global economic and political regime isn't a political objective...
