Weird story about how cities in Washington state are confronting the breakdown of water delivery systems that still rely on wooden pipes (held together by metal coils). This is a great example of aging infrastructure that needs to be replaced in such a way as to dramatically cut down on water losses in transportation and distribution. The stimulus package devotes about $2B for this, but the EPA estimates that something on the order of $330B is needed over the next two decades.
