THE WORLD: "Russia grants US right to transport military supplies," by Mike Eckel, Associated Press, Boston Globe, 7 February 2009.
The Russians say yes to nonlethal supplies through Russian through Central Asia into Afghanistan, but simultaneously press little Kyrgyzstan (former Soviet "republic") to demand the closing of US-built-up Manas airbase (I visited November before last with Centcom boss Fallon).

The signal from Moscow: Russia is willing to help on Afghanistan, but on the Kremlin's terms.
There's crazy in your bedroom and there's crazy on my front lawn. We need to remember: this is their front lawn.
After oil and gas, Russia mostly sells location, location, location. And with global warming defrosting the North Pole, it will be in this business more and more.
