The populism phase we're in is definitely Core-wide

My Mom loves to tell the story of her radical lawyer dad (my grandpa and Packer Hall of Fame inductee) hiding striking milk farmers in his basement and sending her to the door to tell the union-busting cops that nobody was home besides the women.

Their favored protest during the Great Depression? Pouring milk out on highways.

Populism has been rightfully associated too many times with another form of eating from the government coffers - rather than a true movement for equality under the law. It is the same reason why many people in big business don't mind big government...as long as the lobby is there, might as well not kill the root of the problem, even if your competitor or adversary is also getting the fruits.
