ECONOMICS & POLICY: "In India, 'The Mother Of All IT Projects': Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani's plan to give everyone IDs could raise government accountability," by Mehul Srivastava and Steve Hamm, BusinessWeek, 27 July 2009.

That's the driving vision of the IT visionary who wants to give every Indian an ID card with a microchip.

The real goal? Bring them into the formal economy in terms of medical services, forcing the government to take them more into account.

Great example of how technology tends to empower individuals more than governments, while burdening governments more than individuals.

Orwell was just plain wrong.
