The Swat deal works its magic--in the other direction

Sometimes you have to try the dealmaking and fail in order to convince your leadership and people that stronger measures are required.

I think, therefore, that the Swat truce deal has worked magnificently well by speeding up Pakistan's recognition of what must come next.

Terrible fate for the innocent victims in Swat, but better for the country and the world.
